The Deane Dana Friendship Park and Nature Center

Offering exquisite panoramic views of San Pedro and Santa Catalina Island, the Deane Dana Friendship Park and Nature center is a fantastic place to spend the day while living in Palos Verdes. Take your family, your partner, or head there on your own to spend some time reconnecting with nature.

Consisting of 123 acres, the park is home to the federally endangered Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly. The species had been considered extinct until Dr. Rudi Mattoni and some of his collegues discovered a population in San Pedro in 1994. The butterflies were captive-bred, and then released into the Deane Dana Friendship Park in 2010. The population has been on a steady incline, and the species that was once thought to have ceased to exist, now resides only a few minutes away from your home in Palos Verdes!

The park also offers all kinds of fun recreational activities including hiking trails, field trips, nature camps and a nature center where you will find classrooms, live animals, and all kinds of displays to educate people off all ages in a fun way. Children and adults can go on bird walks, take a crafting or naturalist class, and even check out a nature camp.

Perfect for picnics, birthday parties, physical activity and much more, a visit to the Deane Dana Friendship Park and Nature Center is definitely a favorite thing to do in the Palos Verdes, Calfornia area.
